We are currently seeking to appoint a Graduate in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, to join our Estimating & Proposals team, based at our Head Office in Southampton. The successful candidate will join our Graduate Program and will be working within a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers, responsible for producing cost estimates, together with the preparation of the necessary technical and commercial submission documentation for a wide variety of M&E Engineering projects across the UK and overseas, including process or water and wastewater industries, petrochemical, power and energy. As you progress you will be responsible for elements of estimating, taking greater responsibility for your work.  Continual professional development including professional registration is encouraged and actively supported.

Role & Responsibilities

Preparing multi-discipline proposals for the process, water and waste industry and
other industrial markets adhering to the documented company tendering procedures
Programming of own workload, with an emphasis on deadline driven priorities
Understanding client specifications and drawings and documentation required for formal submissions
Compiling and collating documentation, schedules and data sheets etc. for inclusion into final formal proposal submissions (both commercial and technical)
Ascertaining preliminary and detailed project requirements and solutions, including programmes and value engineering solutions
Preparing material, labour, plant and subcontractor cost analysis spreadsheets
Preparing preliminary programmes
Attending internal and external review and progress meetings
Attending site visits and client meetings
Liaising with the ‘in-house’ M&E design teams as necessary
Co-ordination and liaison with suppliers, specialist sub-contractors and ‘in-house’ resources
Considering site safety, health and environmental issues

Graduate Scheme

The Trant Graduate Scheme is offered to all Graduates joining the business. This a period of training and development over 24 months, where you are assigned a mentor to carry out basic training associated with your discipline to enable you move from a Graduate Engineer, to a Junior Estimating & Proposals Engineer to a fully competent Estimating & Proposals Engineer.

You will initially spend 6 weeks at our Head Office where you will be inducted into the business. During this time you will receive safety, health, environmental & quality training, learn the company policies & procedures and receive training to use the company Project Management System.

After completion of the 6 week induction, you will join the Estimating & Proposals (being guided by your mentor) and will become competent in your role.  At 12 months, you will have commenced working on your professional review Initial Professional Development (IPD) and will be actively engaged in the Professional Forum. At this time you should be ready to work independently as a Junior Estimating & Proposals Engineer and by 24 months you should be classified as a Estimating & Proposals Engineer and possibly be mentoring your own first year Graduate.

Qualifications/Competency

BEng (Hons) or MEng in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
Knowledge and awareness of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality
Competent in Microsoft Office and knowledge of MS Project beneficial
Confident and well organised in order to work to short deadlines under pressure
