Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of Engineers working within our Innovation Design and Solution (IDS) centre, you will be responsible for the production of design deliverables for predominately process related projects in the Petrochemical sectors. Other work sectors include Energy (hydrocarbon and renewables), Power & Transmission, Marine/Coastal, Defence (UK and Dependencies), Pharmaceutical, Nuclear, Water, Wastewater and Biosolids sectors.

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and coordinate with the Oil and Gas Sector Director. As a Design Manager you will work closely with the Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Design Managers and CAD Team Leader.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES;

  • The role will be initially focussed in supporting the business development team and oil and gas sector Director in pursuing new opportunities in the petrochemical sector.
  • Working with the Engineering Manager and Oil and Gas Sector Director you will be responsible for developing a 5 and 10 year plan to expand IDS’ design capabilities in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals Sector. The plan will set out the type of work to target, resources required, software and simulation packages required to undertake the work.
  • Responsible for Managing all aspects of process design from site surveys of existing assets to optioneering, feasibility studies, FEEDs, detailed designs and design fee estimates
  • Responsible for coordinating resources to ensure the efficient and intelligent production of design deliverables and undertaking the production of discipline led design deliverables as required
  • Providing technical assistance to project teams during the installation and commissioning phases of projects
  • Mentoring our developing Process Engineers during the professional and personal development en-route to their professional qualifications
  • Appointing and managing third party designs from specialist design consultants to support inhouse design related projects
  • Responsible for recruitment of new team members
  • Approving all design deliverables
  • Undertaking formal design reviews throughout the project cycle as defined within TEL procedures
  • Working with estimators, assisting and offering advice during tender preparations and providing any technical information required to support bid submissions
  • Quality control of all design related design deliverables
  • Assisting Project Managers or Design Coordinators to monitor design expenditure and ensure designs progress in accordance with programme
  • Representing Trant at local and national conferences and meetings
  • Act as the Principal Designer in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015
  • Continued development and review of quality management systems
  • Development and implementation of mechanical software packages

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE;

  • Chartered membership of relevant professional institution
  • Recognised Engineering Institution Accredited BEng/MEng degree
  • Professional experience working within large to medium engineering organisations
  • Experience in managing a large team of Engineers
