The role:

We are currently seeking to appoint a Head of Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality & Training to manage the SHEQ & T function for the business. The Head of SHEQ & T will lead the SHEQ & T team to maintain the highest level of standards within the Trant organisation; having been awarded our 35th consecutive annual Health & Safety award by RoSPA in 2023, this demonstrates exactly how high our standards are.

The position supports all company business sectors, leading & supporting the delivery of Trant Engineering company policies, objectives, procedures and certifications. The Head of SHEQ & T will drive continuous development & improvement within safety, environment & sustainability and quality and will work proactively with the management teams to maintain improved systems of work that consistently demonstrate compliance with established business management systems, customer lead SHEQ initiatives and legislative/regulatory directives.

Key Responsibilities include:

·         To manage and set the professional standards of the SHEQ & T team, comprising of approximately 20-30 staff.

·         To ensure that the Business Management System maintains certification to the current editions of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001; along with BSEN 1090.

·         Collate, interpret and present the quarterly statistics to the Senior Management Team, identifying areas of concern and continuous improvement opportunities.

·         To develop and drive the SHEQ & T strategy and roadmap.

·         To deliver clear and tangible improvements to the company SHEQ & T culture through behavioural safety programmes and barrier management principles.

·         Manage a robust portfolio of external compliance audits, achieving positive certification.

·         To drive initiatives to achieve the Company Carbon Reduction Plan and other sustainability goals.

·         To assist when required in the compilation of Tenders, to work with the Bid Management team to ensure the tender submissions are current and reflect the good working practices within Trant, this will include assisting with prequalification questionnaires and presentations to clients as required.

·         Ensure satisfactory completion and submission of the company preferred award schemes such as ROSPA and SSIP.

·         To chair and attend client and internal forums for each sector.

·         To liaise and instigate Incident investigation teams, assist the quality in the submission ready for sign-off.

·         Track, review and analyse incident data.

·         To provide continuous improvement of the onboarding process.

·         Client liaison for the best interests of the company.

·         To drive the implementation, development, and improvement of the Business Management System (BMS) relating to safety, health, environment, and quality procedures.

·         Organise and chair the annual management review meetings.

·         Conduct and chair monthly SHEQ meetings with the SHEQ team.

·         Arrange and carry out supplier and subcontractor assessments and audits as required.

·         Carry out other adhoc projects relating to SHEQ at the request of the Managing Director. 

Qualifications/background:

Essential:

·         A strong background in Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) management

·         Experience in managing a large team of people

·         NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (minimum)

·         Environmental Management qualification

·         Background in construction or utilities

·         Good understanding of CDM Regulations and RIDDOR

·         Hands on working knowledge of ISO9001, 14001 & 45001 

Preferred: 

·         Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent (Level 6)

·         CQI Certificate in Quality Management or equivalent

·         IEMA Certificate or higher or equivalent

·         Chartered Member of IOSH or equivalent

·         Practitioner Member of IEMA or equivalent

·         Lead Auditor in an ISO Standard

·         An excellent communicator, able to comfortably liaise with people of all levels
