Our in-house multi-disciplinary services include civil, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation, supplemented by the design and manufacture of Control Panels, MCC’s, PLC’s, SCADA, and automation systems. We also provide a range of bespoke modular and containerised water & wastewater treatment and fuel conditioning systems.

We have over 800 employees and with a healthy forward order book with a projected turnover of £180m this year, it is an exciting time to join the business.

We have an immediate requirement for a Regional Design Manager to manage a multi-disciplined engineering design team at our regional office in the North West. Our in-house Design Engineers provide Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Process design solutions across all of our sectors, designing for projects throughout the UK. The Regional Design Manager will report directly to the Engineering Manager, who is based at our Head Office in Southampton.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Interrogation of enquiry documents and coordination of any technical support required during tender preparations. Liaison with other internal departments, culminating in the production of Technical Proposal documents
• Review of Subcontractor design proposals
• Investigation of value engineering and value creation opportunities
• Coordination of design resources to ensure the efficient and intelligent production of design deliverables
• Working with the Group Engineer to develop and maintain relationships with our external design partners, and coordinating their engagement and input as required
• Undertaking formal design reviews throughout the project cycle as defined within Trant Engineering Limited procedures
• Coordinating quality control of all design related deliverables
• Approval of design related deliverables
• Coordinating the provision of technical assistance to project teams during the construction, installation and commissioning phases of projects
• Ensuring engineering change is effectively managed and reported to the Commercial Team
• Monitoring design progression for each project, in conjunction with the planning team, and ensuring early identification and escalation of potential issues where necessary
• Coordination of project delivery team involvement to ensure buildability and commissioning input is obtained at appropriate stages in the design development process
• Mentoring of Trant’s developing engineers enroute to their professional qualifications
• Recruitment of design team members
• Ensuring that compliance with the CDM Regulations 2015 is being achieved throughout the design process
• Championing continuous improvement of the design delivery process
• Development and maintenance of relationships with Clients

Key Skills and Background:

• A history of managing a team of multi-disciplined design engineers for a contractor or consultant
• Previous experience working in a water/wastewater design environment is essential
• A thorough awareness of the commercial factors applicable to tendering & the design delivery process
• A keen eye for detail with the ability to resolve technical queries and review/approve design documentation
• A good working knowledge of BIM/Digital Delivery processes
• Proven ability to communicate effectively, and work in collaboration with other team members
• Willingness to travel periodically throughout UK, and to Designers’ offices as required
• Numeracy and technical bid/report writing

Qualifications:

• Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
• Full driving licence
