Join the Trant Graduate Programme and you will be at the forefront of engineering innovation as we build a secure and sustainable future for our business and our customers.
Our graduates work across a range of engineering disciplines including civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation and software systems integration. We place particular emphasis on operational technology, optimisation, and value engineering incorporating off-site fabrication.
Our Graduate Programme is designed to build a platform of industry and technical knowledge, structured experience and complementary training and development. It provides the tools and opportunity to establish a solid pathway and knowledge to attain professional registration and senior engineering positions. We combine engineering technical training with a leadership skills programme delivering exceptional engineering talent.
We offer graduate placements in engineering and commercial disciplines.
The Graduate Programme is two years in duration, structured to ensure graduates are focused on career development and professional registration. Our successful candidates have the ability and opportunity to innovate and solve complex engineering challenges across the world.
During the first 6 weeks you will attend our headquarters in Southampton, where you will be assigned a mentor and carry out basic training associated with you specific discipline:
Basic Health and Safety training & inductions
Understanding the environment
Quality management requirements
Basic training in company Project Management Systems
During the first six months you will complete an initial period assisting our engineering teams. You will participate in basic engineering tasks and gain valuable experience in company procedures.
By this time you will be competent in carrying out basic engineering tasks relevant to your discipline such as:
– Setting out simple structures and instrument calibration.
– Assisting the development of User Requirement Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), control philosophies, control system architecture.
– Mechanical and electrical design documents and specifications.
By this time you will have commenced working on your professional review Initial Professional Development (IPD) and will be actively engaged in the Professional Forum. You should be ready to work independently as a junior engineer in your chosen discipline.
You will now be classified as an engineer and will have been exposed to various sites and operations. By this time you will have built up your portfolio of experience. You will still be actively engaged in the graduate programme and it is likely that you will be mentoring your own first year graduate on site towards the end of this period.
By this time we hope to appoint you into a senior role such as Site Manager or Project Engineer. You will be submitting your Initial Professional Development (IPD) to the Professional Engineering Institution for approval and will be preparing for professional review. At this point you will be getting ready for incorporated or chartered status with a professional organisation such as ICE, IMechE, or IET etc.
The Trant Professional Forum was created to provide all employees with the encouragement and support in order to maximise their personal potential and become a member of a professional association. The investment in our staff development has resulted in exceptional success with membership of leading UK Engineering Institutions.
We have over twenty-five Chartered Engineers working for the company.
The Trant Professional Forum has two main aims:
To raise the profile of the Company’s engineering capacity (including in-house design and professional status) within the marketplace in order to maintain its frontier position and ensure robustness and sustainability going forward.
To recognise and further promote an individual’s professional development by providing support and encouragement to pursue professional accreditations. Whether or not our staff are from an academic or "time served" background, with us they can benefit from achieving recognition from their appropriate Professional Institution.
